Childhood and youth
Marian Batko was born in March 25, 1901 in Podgórze - Płaszów (district of Cracow today). His parents were: Klementyna (maiden name Maziarska) and Jan Batko. He spent his childhood in Kolbuszowa, where he finished four classes of the popular school. Next he went to grammar school in Mielec. He passed his final exam in May 31, 1920. That year he volunteered for the army and spent 3 months and 9 days there. Then he started his studies at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. He completed his university studies in October 27, 1925, obtaining the qualifications for teaching physics and mathematics.

Since September 1, 1923 until August 31, 1927 he worked as a teacher in Private Co - educational Grammar School in Kolbuszowa. Then he was employed in Lubaczów. Since September 1, 1929 for three years he worked in Mathematical - Natural Grammar School in Katowice. He started the new school year 1932/1933 at St. S. Kostka Mathematical - Natural Grammar School in Królewska Huta (Chorzów). Additionally since August 1934 he taught mathematics - 11 hours a week in Odrowążów Neo - classic Grammar School in Chorzów. Since September 1935 he moved to that Neo - classic Grammar School and worked there until the outbreak of the II World War. In this building at 6a, Powstańców Street there is now our school Zespół Szkół Technicznych Nr 2 im. M. Batko.
Holidays 1939 Marian Batko spent in his homeland. In August 1939 he stayed at his cousin's in Cracow. The outbreak of the war found him there. On Thursday in January 30, 1941 he was arrested. He was imprisoned in Montelupich, and then he was taken away to Auschwitz. In concentration camp he get number 11795 (the political prisoner). When one of the prisoners escaped from block nr 2, there was a selection during the evening appeal. 10 prisoners were chosen and trusted into cellar of the block nr 13 (Marian Batko among them). They were kept there without eating and drinking until their death of starvation. Marian Batko died in April 27, 1941.
